Ten years had passed since Thomas appeared in the world of the living. He waged countless battles against the church’s forces and the believers of other gods who intervened in his crusade for justice. He learned to use his vessel in battle without destroying it, especially as every piece of strength spent made it harder to resist the pull of the afterlife.
His image struck terror in the church and many other forces, spending a long time as a wanted man inside all these forces. In order to protect the public though, his face and details were never revealed to them.
Throughout the entire journey, the half fallen fae, named Senna by Thomas, remained by his side. Her attachment to him based solely off her desire for her own survival in a world that hunted her kind.
She only ate two things during this time, sweets and Thomas’ blood. She enjoyed cheesecakes, mousse, ice creams, strawberry parfaits, and all kinds of sweet deserts. The ultimate sweetness however, was Thomas’ blood.
Thomas used his soul in feeding Senna, causing her to rapidly get more and more powerful as her soul was nourished and grew in strength, her body aging and developing in response to it.
He did this because the soul was the core of an individual, and having a stronger soul meant she would be more capable of controlling her emotions and preventing her from fully turning into a fallen fae. The process could not be reversed, but it could at least be halted.
The growth of her body was truly a marvelous sight though. Nature fae were a kind of spirit that visibly never aged and would always maintain a constant form. Senna had completely shattered this convention and now had the body of a seventeen year old girl.
Both her hips and chest had filled out, emitting a womanly charm that strongly complimented her beautiful face. Her blonde hair was still dyed blood red from the tips to a bit over half way to her head however, an irreversible change caused by her degenerating into malice and hatred.
Her degeneration into a complete fallen fae had gotten worse since Thomas first returned to the world of the living, but only by a small amount. It proved that his countermeasures had been effective, but that was also dependent on the mental strength of Senna herself too.
Her skin was clean once again, her old scars from torture completely vanishing along with the development of her body. Beneath her hair, two pointed ears were hidden, the most telltale sign of her being a spirit and not human.
Senna’s personality was her only flaw. Despite her weakness to sweets, she constantly wore an icy and hostile expression and her attitude towards others was equally cold and unfriendly. She was also quick to anger, an issue stemming from her degeneration into a fallen fae.
Thomas had learned an enormous amount about the world and caught up on everything he missed during his time in the afterlife, at least all the important parts. He was no longer ignorant about technology, heroes and the modern lifestyle.
It was currently the year 2157AD, with the majority of key events in history having occurred in the last several centuries.
During his life in the 14th Century, supernatural being preyed upon humans from the shadows in uncountable numbers. Commoners and serfs were but cattle to them, relying on local and kingdom guards as well as organizations such as the Catholic Church to protect them.
Eventually, humans cast away the shadows with light and dominated the planet. These creatures were forced into hiding because humans spread like a plague and suppressed them with sheer numbers.
Then the industrial revolution occurred and they were forced even deeper into hiding due to humans. The most successful ones managed to camouflage themselves and hide within human society itself, but many became endangered species instead.
Heroes had always existed, even in Thomas’ time, but most back then hid their powers for fear of being killed under the accusation of being witches or warlocks. The term “hero” was during the late WW1 period with the establishment of the Protectorate, originally a part of the American government, that employed those with power to guard the country against threats not only internal but also external.
The most renowned hero at the time was a man called Hal Thornton.
Hal had the strength of five men, and was impervious to most bullet types. Upon joining the military under an extremely high wage, he was made into an icon and renowned across the world under the moniker, Super Soldier.
As the influence of the Protectorate spread on a global scale and more and more international branches were established, they were forced to split from the American government under pressure of the UN and all countries involved, becoming an borderless organization that stood outside of governmental control.
The secrecy of supernatural beings couldn’t last forever though. Human technology advanced at an ever increasing pace and eventually the first supernatural creature was revealed to the public in 2047AD.
The governments of the world had long known about the supernatural beings, or some of them at least, for a very long time. It was this year that the public became aware as footage of vampires and werewolves was released first, shortly after there were glimpses of fae, monsters and other creatures from folklore.
Humans had always thought alien life would come from the stars, but it turned out they were all on the same planet from the very beginning. No matter how powerful some of these creatures were, they were all helpless before the collective human race who ruled the planet.
They did not have country level communities and their suppression had led to fighting between clans and groups of specie for food, namely humans.
It wasn’t until 2060AD that knowledge of the supernatural world and its inhabitants was more widely known and accepted by the populace. Technology advanced once more as the first orbital elevator and space shipyard was built.
There were even ways for humans to become stronger and fight these forces if they were born with the talent. One could be born with superpowers or some other mutation that makes them stronger. Alternatively, people learned of cultivation from the east, magic from Europe, and the power of gods from the churches.
Religion was no longer a superstition but something which had reverted to being widely accepted. There were still charlatans and con men, but people had once again begun to believe in gods.
The advanced technologies released into the world had also completely forced out supernatural beings from hiding. It also revealed the widespread slavery and abuse towards supernatural beings by humans. They were subject to all kinds of experimentation or forced to fight one another in underground fighting rings.
In 2062, widespread protests by the citizens took the world by storm. They could no longer stand by as these supernatural beings were treated as tools or disposable products. In response to this, the world’s first Supernatural Lifeform Protection Act was passed through the American Congress before being enacted throughout the country.
Many other countries followed along with these reforms and created their own protection acts.
Despite this, there were still issues with supernatural beings and how they were treated. These were creatures that preyed upon humans, causing a huge number of people to discriminate or target them.
One force in particular who was against this bill was known as the Hunter’s Guild, an old faction that served as a bridge and communication point between countless hunters who killed supernatural creatures to protect the human race.
Further reformations to the Supernatural Lifeform Protection Act were enacted and a new classification for supernatural beings was created, the Hazard Class.
Each supernatural creature that was known to the world was judged based on strength and nature, with a Hazard I creature posing no threat to humans or humanity, whilst a Hazard IX creature would pose a threat to any nearby civilization, including entire cities. They could even pose a threat to an entire country or even the world.
In 2072AD, the world’s first true artificial intelligence, called Protos, was created by Elric Mandela and tasked with creating a better future for humanity.
The human race entered a golden age of productivity and peak quality lifestyle. Protos could even conduct its own research and was much more efficient than humans at doing so.
Supernatural beings finally had much more rights and were less discriminated against by 2090AD, many walking openly in public as a part of human society. Half breeds and those with unnatural appearances were still shunned in schools and somewhat society as a whole though, indicating that there was still a long way to go.
With the assistance of Protos, the first offworld human colonies began to bloom, from the Interstellar Hives, to the moon and mars colonies. Even several moons around Jupiter were turned into inhabitable land and had their own colonies.
Offworld land was occupied on a first come, first served basis. This meant the mega corporations who heavily invested in space exploration had formed their own micro countries that continued to grow every year. The government also got involved in spreading their territory offworld, but they were forever lagging behind the corporations and had much worse living conditions for their residents.
By the end of the 21st century, in 2097AD, Elric Mandela was assassinated by those who wanted to use Protos for own goals. His company, Nexus Research and Development, become the target of countless superrich companies and politicians looking to benefit and increase their own power.
There were those that feared a war with the machines, whilst others thought that Protos would continue working for them.
The AI truly felt heartbreak in its core logic unit, even anger, but it knew that human greed was endless and it would only lead to further conflict. It judged them as no longer deserving its work and proceeded to separate itself from human civilization.
Protos led all the machines to venture out into the stars whilst leaving humans behind. Any remaining machines were programmed to self destruct or dismantle themselves.
Twenty years passed and the golden age of man was over. Humanity never produced another Elric Mandela and the technology of true artificial intelligence became lost.
The off world colonies, especially those run by the government, were falling into disrepair whilst the citizens focused solely in keeping them functioning.
