Chapter 29 – You Just Need to Kill

Senna’s mana was in chaos as her consciousness was trapped in a mental illusion. She was trapped upon a battlefield filled with the stench of blood and death.

Gunfire and explosions echoed across the dirty landscape of collapsed buildings, whilst those with gifts fought with powers beyond mortal men.

Heroes wielded inhuman speed, the power to imbue weapons with elements, or even cast lightning. Mages constructed magic barriers and summoned golems, while cultivators wielded mystical sword arts and more as they weathered the battlefield with inhuman physiques on par and even beyond some of the strongest heroes.

February 17, 2135.

The man known as Grant Williams looked at a frames copy of Time Magazine, the cover featuring the most prominent figure at the time.

Elric Mandela.

Almost a century ago, Elric Mandela created Protos, the first artificial lifeform to be considered True AI. Within the confines of his company, Nexus Research and Development, Protos was capable of self analysis, learning, and improvement.

It could even conduct its own research without needing human intervention, allowing it to refine and develop new technologies previously thought to be impossible.

Despite the demon’s offer, the duchess remained standing with the group, a spark of interest as to what business a demon would have with the man who took frivolous actions towards her.

His grin then grew as he politely bowed towards Thomas and introduced himself.

“Thomas Smith, I am Astaroth, Duke of Doors. I have already been acquainted with the fallen fae you refer to as your daughter, Senna Smith.”

“Oh?” Thomas grinned mischievously as a subtle white aura began to surround his body, even his irises taking on the otherworldly white glow. “And what does an injured Demon of the Court require with me.”

Thomas was watching a late night rerun of an old soap opera, periodically laughing along with the audience laughter whenever something humorous occurred in the episode.

At the same time, he was playing Age of Heroes on his mobile, repetitively sending his hero team against Gϋnther’s now that he was stronger than him. It cost him nearly 40,000 credits, but it was well worth it in his book.

He manically pressed the [Battle] button in the pvp lobby, annihilating the vampire’s hero team and sending his rank all the way to the bottom of the ladder.

“Hahaha, eat shit you dirty blood sucker!”

25 hours after Thomas signed the devil’s contract.

“Hahahaha, my luck is so good tonight! Pull 10, pull 10, pull 10 again!” Thomas laughed with such a veracity he appeared manical, bread crumbs and othher half eaten food projecting out of his mouth.

In one hand, he held a pulled turkey and chutney sandwich he had made himself, whilst the other held a phone with a display emitting countless flashing lights that seemed to mesmerise him.

Thomas was playing Age of Heroes. He was constantly pressing the button to buy a pack of 10 cards, each of which would be either a hero or a weapon. When opening a ten pack of cards however, at least three were guaranteed to be heroes, at least one of which would be above the common grade.

Chapter 24 – The Devil’s Temptation

Author notes: I have to do some tasks before going to bed, and I have work tomorrow, so this is the last chapter of the day. I will post another 4 chapters tomorrow, and from then on, it will be 1 chapter/week until the end of the novel. I am working through the Christmas break, but I don’t start year 2 of my Bachelor’s until mid-late January I think, so I am hoping this is enough time to almost complete the next volume of End Online and there will be minimal blank period of no posts once I finish publishing the free version of Immortal Templar.

6:30pm.

As you can see, the Protectorate have deployed a defensive wall around the scene of the rift and also set up a defensive perimeter to contain any monsters from escaping.”

The news host spoke as the camera showed the grounds of Laurence Academy of the Gifted, where a large fortified iron wall had been erected around the portal between the two worlds.

A large amount of camera crews could be seen, both media and individual SkyWire streamers who were trying to build their own journalism careers.

Several hero teams have entered the rift to investigate the other side and locate the source that caused it to appear. The Protectorate stated they have detected a point on the inside of the rift that matches the energy signature of the rift itself. More controversial is that the school has refused to suspend classes dispite the danger of monsters so close by.”

The screen then went back to the news room where the anchor continued on the topic.

Friday, the final day of the school week, was when the new substitute teacher for the Modern Magic class finally arrived. Some students were disappointed as it mean no more self study classes that they could do whatever they wanted in, whilst other were highly anticipating learning new magic before the summer break.

Senna sat in class with a bored expression, half-heartedly listening to the conversations of the students around. Helena, the gorgon, still tried to get closer to Senna even though the latter avoided or only casually responded.

There was a rift in between the two that seemed to come out of nowhere for Helena, leading to her being depressed.

“Senna, hey, what do you think about the incident the other day where the Hamilton Overpass collapsed. That’s not far from here!”

Chapter 22 – Flaunting Pedigree

Author notes: I actually wasn’t going to post this chapter, as this was on that was completely dropped and removed in the final version. I just didn’t like it, and that character introduced was scrapped. I am still adding it though, as it was technically a part of the free version, and it messes up my easy chapter numbering otherwise. You will notice it is very short, but do feel free to ignore this chapter and go to the next one.

It had only been several days, but the news of Senna had become the talk of the school.

Whilst supernatural creatures were common knowledge and no longer limited to hearsay and folklore, they were still a rarity compared to the enormous population of humanity.

This was showcased in Laurence Academy of the Gifted by there being only a handful of supernatural creatures amongst the school. Some were met with scorn or aversion, but all were well known and the frequent topic of discussion.

Thomas’ eyes grew wide in surprise at the mention of there being a gorgon at Senna’s new school, a scenario that was completely beyond his ability to fathom how it came to be.

“Is it really that strange for a gorgon to be at my school?”

“Of course! Gorgons are native to Greece, especially the isles. You might find one anywhere around the Mediterranean Sea, they are from the offspring of ocean gods, but definitely not across the pacific ocean all the way in America.”

“Fine, but I’m still not calling the client to claim that their son was eaten by a schoolmate. You are wrong about that.”

5th Period, Monday.

Jack Riddle sat in his Modern Magic class with his eyes closed. Unlike how he used to do so in order to sleep with his head on the desk, this time he was sitting with his back straight as if made from steel and was deep in meditation.

He recalled this week from his former life better than any other. It was the week where their magic teacher, Mr. Samson was placed on leave due to suffering an injury outside of work.

Oh, it was also the week he died.
