“Hahahaha!! This new guild leader is weak, WEAK!” Thomas shouted ecstatically while attacking the new guild leader of Gϋnther’s Age of Heroes guild, Night Noblesse.
He was relentless, destroying their ranking in several pvp arenas and stealing all of their points without mercy. His guild, Undying, only had seven members in it, half of which were inactive most of the time. This meant he performed terribly in the guild arena, and hence struggled to get new, high quality players to join.
“What, I’m out of energy to attack?”
Thomas complained and tried to pay to recharge his energy gauge, but froze as his bank declined due to insufficient credits.
“No worries, no worries, I will just mooch off my guild members~” He immediately thought up a solution.
[Supreme Leader of the Inquisition: Hey all, this humble guild leader needs someone to recharge his energy. Who’s up?]
[Lonely Walker: Begone, leech]
[Black Bear: I’m going for a swim to see Big Stiff]
[White Snow Emperor: I’m not paying for you to stir up trouble again. Shoo]
[Supreme Leader of the Inquisition: Stingy bastards! @Black Bear, I will tell Corpus you called him Big Stiff again if you don’t pay up.]
[White Snow Emperor: Resorting to the extortion card already? How desperate. Who are you fighting?]
[Supreme Leader of the Inquisition: The new guild leader of Night Noblesse is weak af! Knock them down while we can!]
[Lonely Walker: Motherfucker!! I knew you were up to something shady, stop dragging us into this shit!]
[Black Bear: No reception, can’t help]
[White Snow Emperor: Didn’t the werewolves break into your home and urinate everywhere last time you stirred up trouble with them? You are now messing with the new vampire guild leader? She is not a pacifist, you know.]
[Supreme Leader of the Inquisition: Together we stand united!]
[White Snow Emperor: Ah, I forgot some stuff I have to get from the shop a couple counties over, back later.]
“Idiot, what are you doing?” Senna entered the living room where Thomas was furiously tapping away on his phone, cursing the guild members who were now completely ignoring him.
“Ahem, I am just telling my guild members to be team players.”
“Sure, whatever you say.”
Senna completely lost interest after he mentioned it was related to Age of Heroes, instead opting to grab a supermarket parfait from the fridge and reviewing the case of the missing student, Adrian Nikolic.
Their information was that he went to do an overnight stay at the school, a trial of bravery and form of hazing from the wealthy students against the scholarship students. Adrian left home for the school late at night, but never appeared on any of the cameras around the school, and never returned home.
With no sign of life in the realm of the living, there was a chance he had died. At the same time, there was no remains detected either. Thomas had already strongly suggested that he was eaten by the gorgon girl at school, Helena.
She saw herself in Helena, a monster that was fighting against its nature, so she didn’t want to believe that she had eaten the missing boy. Alas, Thomas had already planted the seeds of doubt and it was constantly there.
The other possibility, with a high probability, was that he had fallen into a pocket dimension or somewhere the spiritual arts of Aveline could not reach. Tied with a string of missing male students over the past ten years, seemingly without a single trace, this did mostly rule out the possibility that he was simply kidnapped.
While it was only the scholarship students who went missing, this can be linked to the fact it was only them who were peer pressured into the overnight hazing by those from wealthy families.
With the rift that opened within the school, generating a passage into Purgatory, the possibility that these students fell into purgatory was even higher.
They had seen one former student inside of the rift, a girl who was raped and murdered a little over thirty years ago. While this meant the chance that he was directly absorbed into the realm was more improbable,
Thomas had paid the old spiritualist five thousand credits to purchase a spiritual compass attuned to Adrian Nikolic. Once they entered Purgatory, they would be able to tell if Adrian was inside as the compass would point in his direction. They had originally planned on simply breaking in at night, but they had received an official means of entry that was even easier.
Even though a month had passed since the boy went missing, time flows differently between the dimensions, so only a few days may have passed for Adrian if he fell into Purgatory.
At the same time, it could have instead been a few years and there was little to no chance he was still alive by that point.
*Ding-a-ling*
The bell on the door to Thomas’ Private Investigator Office for the Supernatural and Mundane rang as a man in a pressed police uniform with an army haircut. A intimidating looking sword hung on his waist, while his piercing green eyes glanced through the room.
“Dear custo-” Thomas began, sitting up from his lying down position on the couch, a cigarette still in his mouth. “Oh, drug addict, it’s you.”
“Is this how you present yourself to people who walk in? You are a mess,” Anthony Reeves commented while looking down at Thomas in disdain.
“You need to relax and live life a bit more. Don’t be so stringent.”
“You are just too excessively laid back. Look, even your shirt is buttoned up wrong…”
As if she was following him, Senna returned to the store with several bags of shopping in hand. Thomas tried to hide the cigarette in his hand, but it was a pointless endeavor as the entire store stunk of tobacco, let alone the cloud of smoke hanging about.
“How many times have I told you not to smoke, huh?!”
Senna seemed to teleport across the room and forcefully pinched his mouth before the cigarette vanished and was crushed into dust, a fate many cigarette brothers shared.
Captain Reeves sighed and waved his hand. The window at the end of the room opened in response and a powerful gust of wind swept through, extracting all of the smoke and associated scent of tobacco from the room while somehow not disturbing even the loose paper on Thomas’ desk right next to the window.
Senna shifted her gaze and focused her crimson pupils on the urban cultivator, the wrath behind them not hidden in the least.
“So you are an air freshener? At least you can do something useful.”
“…”
“What are you here for?”
“…Did you forget the rift at Laurence Academy of the Gifted?”
“Oh, that’s today. Idiot, get your stuff.”
Thomas stood up and patted himself off before stating with a grin, “Ready to go~”
“At least fix your appearance. Have some sense of shame, will you.”
Despite her harsh tone and words, the demi-fallen fae quickly fixed the buttons on his shirt that were misaligned before straightening his collar and turning back to Captain Reeves.
“We will be down in a moment.”
Feeling a sense of threat from her, Anthony briefly nodded his head before departing and waiting for the two at the car downstairs that looked ordinary from the outside, but had the latest technology in armor and mana shields.
It only took Senna a moment to change into a set of form fitting pants and a long sleeve shirt made from the densely woven thread of an arachne, an extremely strong material resistant to tearing. On her waist was a pair of thin plate gauntlets that were made long ago for her to protect others from the toxic poison in her nails when she was fighting.
She didn’t wear them immediately due to the a bag filled with an assortment of sweets she carried with the intention of eating on this trip.
The two then headed downstairs where Anthony Reeves was waiting in the driver’s seat of the car.
“Sandals, snacks?” The police captain asked in disbelief. “Do you think you are going on some kind of picnic?”
“Isn’t it?”
