Author’s notes: Third chapter release. 5 more CotE chapters coming.

Chapter 3 – Greyhorn Townsend

Late in the night, Regal has finally cut down enough deadwood trees to create the covered wagon. He does it far enough away that the noise won’t wake everyone up. Unfortunately, even though the moon illuminates the night with a silvery glow, it isn’t enough light for him to be able to accurately create the wagon by. Not only that, but chopping apart all the deadwood trees into long timber sections over such a short period of time has completely exhausted him.

Regal sinks down against the pile of deadwood he has prepared. His exhaustion and the long day of travel has mentally and physically worn him out to the point that he can no longer keep his eyes open.

Veronica is currently the person on patrol. She wanders over to Regal when she sees him sitting down against the large pile of deadwood. Regal is already asleep, his hot breath against the cool night air peacefully causes a faint mist to form in small puffs as he sleeps. Veronica finds that looking on his sleeping form causes her chest to feel warmer than it should. She silently stands next to him for several minutes, closely inspecting his face, before eventually letting out an almost inaudible sigh before returning to her patrol.

Chronicle of the Eternal: Vol 2. Chapter 2

Editors: Templar, Jack Vanatis, Orang
Author’s notes: Second chapter release. I would like to thank the editors who have really helped me and basically left everything ready for posting in the first few chapters. More chapters coming.

Chapter 2 – Mutant Stone Beasts

Regal and his squad take the entire day to reach the north gate. They decide to spend the night near the city’s edge before leaving the enclosure of Grand Theore, rather than walking through the night or camping just outside the city.

The men have one room in the inn to themselves, while the women have another. Astore and Kilde aren’t very talkative, so they end up easily falling asleep in the silence. Aqua and Piora are the exact opposite, talking vibrantly into the night as they get to know each other, occasionally forcing Veronica into their conversation.

The next day, still full of energy, the squad exits through the gate and steps out into the greater world. Regal marvels at how large the sky is, just like the first time he left the confines of the city to learn cartography. Back then, they couldn’t leave the range of five miles from the city in fear of the wild mutant beasts.

Chronicle of the Eternal: Vol. 2 Chapter 1

Editors: Templar, Jack Vanatis, Orang
Author’s notes:Hello everyone, it’s been a while!! Skipping all the unpleasentries for now, this is the first chapter release. I am going through all the chapters as we speak and releasing them in turn. I expect to have them all out today, but if not, there won’t be many left. I’m not holding back any chapters and releasing as much as I can.
As for my absense, and what has been happening. I will release two posts after the chapter releases. The first explaining what I have been going through lately and all the reasons I haven’t talked about for now. It is a big step coming out with these issues, so I hope you can be patient with me in this regard. The second post is something different, so wait for it to come (Don’t worry, it’s nothing bad).

Vol. 2 Chapter 1 – Registration

The first night after graduating from Bluemist Academy and being officially recognized as an adult, Regal’s home is intruded upon by two people. These interlopers are Aqua, who independently decided she would be stay with him until they departed Grand Theore and Veronica, who resolutely refused to leave Regal and Aqua alone together.

This night is the longest night Regal can recall. On one side of the room is Veronica, for whom he has strong feelings of love. Standing beside her is Aqua, who is fond of Regal but displeased that her feelings aren’t reciprocated.

Regal stands in the kitchen making a hot stew for them all out of a chunk of meat from a Horned Vice, which is a mutant beast that he was told resembles a cow and has a terrifying charge attack. The entire house is filled with a tense silence, only broken by the sound of the stew boiling and the occasional footsteps passing by outside.

Writing Style

I have a question for you all that I would like some feedback on. I have also created a poll for those who don’t have any particular remarks to comment but favour one opinion over another.

Poll can be found here.

As many know, or have noticed, I write in the present state, save for events that have already happened. I grew into this style early on when I started writing. During the initial feedback from readers, there was one about “showing not telling”, along with some examples. I found it puzzling at first and was comparing the examples with my work, and also doing research on the subject.

I have learned about it now, but at the time, I had taken it as writing in the present tense was “showing” (involving the reader in the action as it’s happening) where as writing in the past tense was “telling” (telling the reader about what happened). I often mistook verbs back then and wrote as a jumbled mess of both present and past tense. Thankfully weakwithwords, then genericIntent, came along and helped me fix most of it in the editing process.

Editor Recruitment

As I’m sure you all saw in the last post. genericIntent is retiring and we are in need of new editors. I will keep it short so see the below rules for applying ^.^

~ Comment below your intent to join our team, or send me a private email to drunkenwolfin[at]gmail[dot]com

~ All editing will be done in google docs. It is preferred if you have a gmail account, but it is not entirely necessary. I should still be able share the document with you if you don’t, google docs just complains to me about it.

Editor Retirement

It was just over a year ago that our current head editor, genericIntent, joined the team and started helping with the editing for End Online. He has possibly been the greatest help in turning my horrendous grammar, half asleep sentences, and changing my mind in the middle of a paragraph, into a much more readable format.

I often made jokes about him taking a hammer to my writing in the process, and to be honest… No, I’m right, he really did take the metaphorical hammer to it. His well placed Monty Python jokes while editing were also always amusing.

As you have probably guessed by the title, genericIntent will be stepping down from the editing stage.

There will be a recruitment for 1 or 2 new editors, but I will make another post for that tomorrow. Today, I only hope that you all can leave a comment thanking our editor, who has always been working silently in the background, for all that he has done over the past year, and wishing him the best for the future.

Chronicle of the Eternal: Chapter 23

End Online Chapter 39: Unedited version currently available on my Patreon for all those that support me there.
Planning Stage: 100%
Writing Stage: 101%
Editing Stage: 90%
Editors: Templar, Jack Vanatis, genericIntent
Author’s notes: Final chapter to be released today, and final chapter of the book. There is still the Side Story 1: Tanner’s Story, but that is only available in the book. Please do support my work: Purchase a book, or if money is a concern perhaps tell someone else about it, both are equally valued by me. ^.^
Now, for the announcement. I had originally planned on releasing a chapter a week or something similar. Even if releasing chapters to catch up, this is more than what was due. It is actually the rest of the volume to be released. I have done this for a simple reason.
Amazon have been able to automatically locate Chronicle of the Eternal and find that it is currently released for free, as seen by that last false alarm email I received. They don’t do this with End Online, perhaps because the name is too vague and related to too many things that it slips past their automatic search.
Chronicle of the Eternal will be available for Kindle Unlimited a few days into next month. If their system detects it is freely available here and this becomes and issue, which is more than likely, it will need to be removed. Should this happen, I will still be posting Volume 2 chapters here, and I will also write a brief recap of volume 1 for anyone who hasn’t read or can’t purchase Volume 1. I hope you can all understand.

Chapter 23 – Graduation

One week has passed since Regal returned to Bluemist Academy, and it is time for the students to once again delve into Theore Substructure. A quarter of the students have already reached level 10, so the procession into the dungeon is smaller than usual.

Regal’s squad, minus Piora, are among those entering the clock tower. Veronica, Astore and Kilde didn’t enter the dungeon the previous time while Regal was missing, so they haven’t reached level 10 as of yet.

Chronicle of the Eternal: Chapter 22

Editors: Templar, Jack Vanatis, genericIntent
Author’s notes: Fifth chapter release, one more. No complaining that this one is painfully short for a chapter, you just got two chapters that were 1.5x as long. ^.^

Chapter 22 – Return

Regal ascends the stairs and exits Theore Substructure, emerging from the clocktower at the center of Grand Theore with a dazed expression. It is still early in the morning so the two city guards stationed outside are surprised to see a student leaving the dungeon so early. They take a moment before noticing that Regal’s uniform is actually different from the students who entered the dungeon this morning and move to apprehend him.

“Hey, you don’t belong with Mountain Gate Academy, what were you doing in the dungeon?” The taller of the two guards grabs Regal’s elbow to prevent him from escaping.

“I was just leaving, sir. I was trapped within the dungeon and only managed to escape now.”

Chronicle of the Eternal: Chapter 21

Editors: Templar, Jack Vanatis, genericIntent
Author’s notes: Fourth chapter release, only two left.

Chapter 21 – Monster

As Regal slides off the pipe spanning the shaft, fear and confusion fill his mind. He isn’t afraid of dying, but falling into what appears to be an endless void has a terrifying aspect to it.

The pipe Regal and his squad were crossing grows further away as he falls. After only a few breaths worth of time, it is gone. Regal is enveloped by the endless darkness of the chasm, and it almost appears to stick to and envelop him.
